Infrastructure

  • Construction of the main sewage treatment plant on Saadiyat to be completed by July 2012. Deep services for the museum district, which include sewers and storm water pipes, were completed in March 2011.
  • The development of the electrical network across Saadiyat is progressing with the expansion of the 22kv network north of the expressway to serve the Saadiyat Beach district.
  • The infrastructure to support the first phase handover of Saadiyat Beach Villas (20 villas) is in place and is operational.
  • Roads, landscaping and signage for the Saadiyat Beach Villas phase one areas are also complete.
  • Infrastructure to support the remainder of the Saadiyat Beach Villas has been constructed and will be made operational as future phases are brought to handover.
  • The UAE Pavilion was recently nominated as the first project on Saadiyat to achieve a 2 Pearl Estidama Building rating at the design stage. Progress is being made towards achieving the full award of Estidama following construction.
  • The Saadiyat Beach dune system is continuing to be protected from development and provides a unique and natural setting for all of the beachfront hotels, as well as maintaining nesting habitat for the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle.
  • Over the last couple of years Saadiyat has been the birth place of over 300 Hawksbill Turtles.
  • The newly operational St Regis Hotel, Park Hyatt Hotel and Monte- Carlo Beach Club, Saadiyat are making changes to their properties during the turtle nesting season in coordination with scientists, including turning off the landscape lighting on the beach side of their properties, advising all of their guests to support turtle nesting by keeping curtains closed at night, and by avoiding beach functions and the beach area at night.
  • The mangroves on Saadiyat are thriving. The plantation areas, where more than 400,000 mangroves have been planted, are growing well, creating a carbon sink and adding greenery to the development without an irrigation demand.
