Workers embraced the spirit of sportsmanship as they strove to win the Saadiyat Cup
Abu Dhabi, March 27, 2014 – The Saadiyat Accommodation Village (SAV), the award winning accommodation facility developed by the Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) in 2009 to house construction workers who are developing Saadiyat, recently organised an exciting sporting event for its residents.
The final match of the Saadiyat Cup Football Tournament 2014, which took place in the Village’s dedicated outdoor sporting area, was between one of SAV’s own participating teams called “Yellow Lightning” and Drake & Scull International PJSC. After a spirited match, Drake & Scull was crowned the champion and received the Saadiyat Cup from Jassim Al Hammadi, TDIC’s Director of Infrastructure and Delivery.
“This competition was organised as part of our ongoing commitment to encourage a community spirit in the SAV. There are a lot of talented individuals here, and the event gave workers a chance to participate in a friendly competition while enjoying their recreational time, which is important given that they play such an important role in developing Saadiyat,” Al Hammadi said.
In a further show of sportsmanship, a team composed of TDIC management competed in the tournament, which was open to all construction workers living at the Village – who formed 10 teams - in addition to 16 participating teams that represented different organisations and construction companies in the area.
