Louvre Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi and France have signed an intergovernmental agreement to create the Louvre Abu Dhabi, a universal museum within the Cultural District on Saadiyat Island.
This unprecedented gesture establishes the bases of a new type of cultural collaboration between two sovereign countries; in a wider context of a political, educational, cultural, and philosophical cooperation.
Embodied in a building designed by Pritzker Prize-winner Architect Jean Nouvel, the United Arab Emirates will have a cultural establishment of international renown in Abu Dhabi; which will give Abu Dhabi a place among the greatest cultural nations worldwide.
The masterplan for the Cultural District and the model created for Louvre Abu Dhabi, can be seen at the Saadiyat Island Cultural District Exhibition, now open at Emirates Palace (free entry).
